Multiple system atrophy is a disabling neurodegenerative disorder that
is characterized by autonomic dysfunctions associated with abnormal
movement phenomena, such as Parkinsonism or cerebellar ataxia. An
autonomic dysfunction is a feature of synucleinopathies associated
with Parkinson¡¯s disease, Dementia with Lewy bodies, and pure
autonomic failure, hence differential diagnosis of multiple system
atrophy is often challenging. In this study, dysautonomic
manifestations frequently observed in multiple system atrophy, and
their anatomical correlates with pathophysiology are described. |
